transformation task

so i am starting my transformation of everyday objects today and I've decided to do smoking.

my first idea was to make a diamond encrusted cigarette holder (not real diamonds of course) but my tutor tony informed me that they all ready exist.......not to sure who owns one but they do make them!!!.

so then i turned my attention to smoking apparatus and i thought of pipes and bongs stuff like that, but then i thought why not flip this idea on its head and turn things to help your breathing in to smoking equipment the only logical answer for this was to turn an asthma pump in to a cigarette as you can see above!!!

i made this out of clay and then painted it to imitate an actual cigarette but this just did not work as i would of liked it to so i decided to use a real asthma pump and cover it in rizla so you knew it was for smoking. but me and tony both decided covering it in rizla took the shock factor away of it being a converted asthma pump that now pumps smoke in to your lungs instead of you having to inhale.
so i decided to just have it as an actual asthma pump which you load up with tobacco like a pipe.

another thing i done for my idea development was play with size so i made this massive cigarette out of card and sugar paper but it didn't really give me any more idea of ware i was going to go with this project, but then i realised it had because it made me want to go with the asthma pump idea and develop that so it actually really did help.
hears a picture of the massive cigarette anyway

i also had an idea of making this jewel encrusted cigarette because i thought to myself when it comes to taxation and profits of cigarettes the government and all these massive corporations make a killing (no pun intended). and its these little death sticks which enable them to do so. so i thought i jewel encrusted cigarette would put this point across quite well once again this idea did not develop but made me realise for my final project i wanted to go in the asthma pump direction

hears a picture of the jewel encrusted cigarette anyway

pictures of my final transcription

so hears some images of my final piece for the transcription, the colours represent the suffragettes and the crest represents the owner of the horse whistle jacket. the owner was a prime minister named Charles Watson, this ties in with the Emily Davison story because she was fighting the government for women's votes.

also it ties in with the horse racing aspect of the story because its a rosette you get awarded these for wining horse races and such.

i think the colours have worked really well, also I'm glad Ive made an actual piece of design rather than just a piece of art its actually functional as well as pretty my only problem is i think i could have turned the crest in the middle in to a real stamp rather then just a photoshopped one. the main issue with this was i didn't have the money for supplies. like the price for getting the wax stamp made or the production time needed. so in future i will be sure give myself more time then i need to take in to account production time and design.

transcription 2

so i have been working on this transcription for like two weeks now, finally finished!!!. i decided to make this rosette out of the official suffragette colours and instead of  the middle being the like 1st, 2nd or 3rd I'm putting the griffin from whistle jackets owners (Charles Watson) coat of arms in their, played about with it in photo shop to make it look like it had been stamped on to it. i think it looks really good!!

i decided to do this because its not so literal and i just think it works really well. to who ever views it just looks like a normal rosette and you would not think anything of it but the story behind the piece makes it what it is.

I'm finding myself more and more intrigued by pieces like this that have a really good story behind them or political reference's i think it just takes the art to a whole different level.

with regards to my idea development i must admit Ive not documented it so well with this task but that's a learning curve. i now know to literally write down every idea i have and document every bit of art i do with in the journey to the final piece

sorry theirs no pictures i will get some up over the next few days for you

transcription

rite I'm transcribing this painting called whistle jacket by George stubs i think I'm going to do something with regards to the owner of the horse and Emily Davison (the famous political suffragette activist). turns out she got killed by a horse on a race track and it just so happens whistle jacket was a race horse and his owner was in politics a prime minister at one point.

this is the original image..

thinking maybe of having a picture of Emily Davison cowering on the floor of a race track with horses running towards her and the prime minister riding the horse this is most likely way to literal tho.

so this is my first entry in to this blog im totally new to this so forgive me if im not doing it rite.
anyway went to hertfordshire university open day this morning gave me a really great idea of what to expect from college with regards to facilities, workshops and such. also has made me see the standard of work which getS produced at that level and i can tell you now its FRICKING AWSOME!! proper puts my photoshop skills to shame but i suppose that will all change with practice.

anyway thats it from me today be back tomorrow i think
